WASTELANDS
A World of Darkness Chronicle

Basic Gifts
Crescent Moon's Awareness
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift.
-
Waxing Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Gnosis vs. up to five targets' Willpower
Effect: You heighten the awareness of the spirit world in a group. Garou and other Fera find this experience invigorating -- they are one Trait up on Challenges to step sideways or communicate with spirits. Others find this effect disturbing -- they are one Trait down on all Challenges. Spirits are not affected. These effects are doubled if you are a Theurge.
Duration: One turn for each of your Permanent Gnosis. Double this if you're a Theurge.

Deep Roots
To Learn: Must be a member of the Wise Heart House to learn this gift
Cost: One Physical Trait or One Level of the Survival Ability
Effect: All attempts to move the Silver Fang automatically fail; though they still suffer damage as normal, and if they become incapacitated or killed, the gift ends. The Garou may still choose to move if they want to, they simply may not be forced to move by others.
Duration: A number of turns equal to their permanent Gnosis
Eagle's Beak
To Learn: You must be House Wyrmfoe to learn this gift.
Required: Spend one full turn screeching at an enemy.
Activation Time: One turn
Cost: One Rage
Effect: Your teeth become as sharp as a raptor's shriek. Your bite does one additional level of Aggravated damage.
Duration: One Scene or Hour
Empathy
Initial Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Mental vs. one or more targets
Retest: Empathy
Followup Cost: 0-2 Mental Traits
Effect: You call on a heightened insight into the desires of others, the better to lead them. Success earns you a simple explanation of your targets' desires: to forgive or to punish, to make peace or make war, etc. Spending one Mental Trait earns you a detailed sense of their desires; spending two Traits informs you about desires your targets haven't even expressed. You can use this insight to make popular decisions -- although not necessarily good ones.
Eyes of the Falcon
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: Your vision sharpens with the acuity of a bird of prey. You gain a two-Trait bonus on all vision-related challenges using the Perceptive Mental Trait (or a synonym). You gain a one-Trait bonus on all ranged attacks.
Duration: One Scene
Falcon's Grasp
Cost: One or two Rage
Effect: Your hands or jaws gain the deadly strength of Falcon's talons or beak. If you spend one Rage, choose either your hands or your jaws; you gain a three-Trait bonus in Physical Challenges where you use the chosen parts in grappling or biting. If you spend two Rage, you get the bonus to both.
Duration: One Scene
Full Moon's Cleansing
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift.
-
Waning Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: One Rage
Challenge: For Ahroun, a simple win-or-tie test; for everyone else, Rage vs. the number of scenes they've been in Harano (max. 11)
Retest: Meditation
Effect: You steel yourself against the psychic toll of war. You may ignore the effects of Harano for the duration.
Duration: A number of scenes or hours equal to your permanent Rage
Gibbous Moon's Song
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift. To learn it you must defeat a Great Green Cheese spirit (seriously?) in a battle of wits and wordplay, and you may only attempt this once a month.
-
Waning Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: The blessing of the gibbous moon makes you more friendly and charming. You gain the Social Traits Charismatic x2, and you gain a free retest on all positive Social Challenges.
Duration: One Scene
Hand Blade
To Learn: You must be House Wyrmfoe to learn this gift.
Cost: One Rage
Effect: With this gift, a member of House Wyrmfoe need never be unarmed. You shapeshift your arm itself into a sword-like weapon. Your attacks with this blade enjoy a 3-Trait bonus, deal two Aggravated damage, and rely on the Melee Ability for retests. Gifts that enhance your claws may enhance your hand blade as well. You automatically suffer one level of Lethal damage if you attempt any blade-to-blade maneuvers like parries, and more than three such levels of damage renders your arm broken and unusable.
Duration: Until you choose to end the effect
Harrier's View
To Learn: You must belong to House Unbreakable Hearth to learn this gift.
Cost: One Mental Trait
Effect: This gift grants you an innate awareness of where all your packmates are, relative to you; moreover, this sense helps you command them more effectively. Gain a 2-Trait bonus on your Leadership challenges with them. You and your packmates enjoy a 1-Trait bonus to your Pack Tactics and in relation to any specific plans you made ahead of time.
Duration: One Scene
Hidden Meaning
To Learn: You must belong to House Unbreakable Hearth to learn this gift.
Required: Listen to your target speaking on a topic for at least a minute
Challenge: Mental vs. target
Retest: Empathy
Effect: You gain an uncanny sense of a target's unspoken concerns. Ask your target OOC "What worries your character most?" about the topic they've been addressing. They must give you an OOC answer, and you gain a clear IC sense of that response.
Ice Dance
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: Hearkening back to the tribe's frozen Russian roots, you can move across snow and/or ice with no penalties. You gain a one-Trait bonus to all Physical Challenges you make while standing on these surfaces. This Gift is especially effective for half-moons: if you're a Philodox, you enjoy a two-Trait bonus instead, and you double your speed across snow and ice.
Duration: One Scene
Lambent Flame
Cost: One Willpower
Effect: Your aura ignites with an intense silver light, bright enough to illuminate everything within a hundred feet of you. Enemies fighting you hand-to-hand suffer a one-Trait penalty from the glare, but you also become a clear target: foes making ranged attacks on you enjoy a one-Trait bonus.
Duration: One Scene
Locate Spirit Tutor
To Learn: You must be a member of House Wise Heart to learn this gift.
Required: You are in the Umbra
Cost: One Willpower
Effect: Spending a moment meditating for guidance, you gain a sense of where to find the nearest spirit that can teach a particular Gift you have in mind.
Luna’s Armor
Frequency: Once per scene
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: You invoke Luna's light to protect you from your enemies' attacks. You gain a number of Armor levels equal to your Rank plus one. While this Armor is intact, you do not take additional damage from silver weapons.
Armor Type: Barrier
Duration: Until the end of the scene, or until destroyed by damage.
New Moon's Laughter
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift.
-
Waxing Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: By gently reminding everyone about good behavior, you grant a one-Trait bonus to all positive Social Challenges and a one-Trait penalty to all negative or hurtful Social Challenges. If you're a Ragabash, these effects are doubled.
Duration: One Scene
Paralyzing Stare
Requirement: Your target must be able to see your eyes and facial expression.
Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Social vs. target
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: One glimpse of your terrifying visage freezes your target in place, unable to move, for the duration.
Duration: A number of turns equal to your permanent Gnosis, or until the target takes damage.
Sense Wyrm
Challenge: Mental vs. Storyteller difficulty based on intensity of Wyrm influence (high intensity is low difficulty, low intensity is high difficulty)
Retest: Occult or Investigation
Effect: A mystical sense not unlike a scent tells you whether the Wyrm has corrupted anything in the area. This "Wyrm-Taint" may mean there is an enemy nearby, or it may simply mean that an innocent bystander ate Wyrm-manufactured food or works at a spite-filled office.
Truce of Helios
To Learn: Must be a member of the Lodge of the Sun
Required: Both sides must agree to a truce
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: In order to activate this Gift, the Garou must openly propose a truce that the other side(s) in a dispute agree to accept; if this condition is met, the Garou makes the expenditure to spiritually enforce the conditions of the peace for all present. During the following negotiations, those who seek to attack the speakers, outright ignore them or otherwise disrupt the proceedings must first defeat the Garou in a Social Challenge (retest Leadership). Garou who violate the truce in this manner lose a point of Honor, unless there are extreme circumstances. If the user of this gift violates the truce, they always lose the point of Honor, regardless of what caused them to do so; in addition, this Gift will never function again for those who see the user violate the truce. It should be noted that while those present are forbidden from attacking each other, as part of the truce, they are still able to defend themselves from sudden attacks or outside threats without losing Honor.
Duration: One Day or One Negotiation
Word of Honor
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: As long as you speak the truth as you know it, anyone hearing your words will automatically believe your words to be true. This applies only to matters of fact ("I was with a friend at the time of the murder"), not to matters of opinion ("that man deserves death for his crimes"). If you attempt to lie, omit important details, or hide the truth in any way, the gift backfires, and every listener knows you are lying or hiding something.
Duration: One scene
Intermediate Gifts
Crescent Moon Fata
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift. You must defeat a spider or firefly Jaggling of Moira in gamecraft to learn it, and may only attempt once each month; if you fail, you lose three Gnosis.
-
Waning Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: Ten minutes of uninterrupted meditation
Challenge: A number of Mental Challenges equal to your Enigmas, vs. nine Traits (or seven if you're a Theurge)

Duration: Until the battle is over, or one hour, whichever comes first
Half Moon's Diplomacy
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift.
-

Required: You are participating in a discussion or debate
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: Upon activating this Gift, everyone in the debate must fall silent for five seconds. Thereafter, nobody can say anything inflammatory, tactless or disrespectful unless they first succeed in a static Willpower Challenge vs. five Traits (no retest). If you (the gift-user) are a Philodox, the difficulty is seven Traits instead, and you may force the Garou to retest it (once per Challenge).
Duration: Until the discussion or debate is over
Half Moon Mnemonics
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift.
-
Waning Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: You affix the present minute in your memory, making yourself able to recall it later with perfect clarity. You may only keep a number of such memories equal to your permanent Gnosis.
Duration: Forever, unless you discard the memory in favor of another.
Ignore Wound
Required: You're about to suffer the effects of losing one combat Challenge.
Activation Time: At will
Frequency: Once per scene
Cost: One Willpower
Effect: Rather than suffer the effects of a terrible wound in battle, you grit your teeth and fight on. You ignore the effect of one combat Challenge you just lost.
Mastery
Challenge: Social vs. target Garou
Retest: Leadership
Followup Cost: 0-5 Mental Traits
Effect: You deliver commands with such force as to compel obedience in a Garou target (and only in a Garou target). Your target immediately complies with one non-suicidal order for the duration.
Duration: One turn, plus an additional turn for each Mental Trait you spent
Mindblock
Effect: You maintain peak mental defenses -- perhaps as compensation for certain mental weaknesses. Against all efforts to attack or control your mind (e.g., mind reading, possession, mental illusions) you defend with a three-Trait bonus to your Mental Traits, or ten Traits, whichever is higher. Mindblock offers no protection against powers that perceive or affect your emotions.
Duration: Always in effect
Reasons Grasp
Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: one simple test (win or tie) for each of your Permanent Willpower
Retest: none
Followup Cost: One Willpower per test won or tied
Effect: The burdens of leadership express themselves in the psychological "quirks" suffered by the Silver Fang Tribe, but this Gift offers a respite from those burdens. For each simple test you win or tie, you may spend a Willpower to ignore a Quirk or Derangement for one scene. You also gain that number of one-time retests against sanity-altering attacks.
Duration: A number of scenes equal to the Willpower you spent
Roll Over
Frequency: This gift is specially subject to the five-minute rule (i.e., if it fails, you cannot attempt it against the same target until five in-game minutes have passed).
Challenge: Willpower vs. target
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: Bearing down on your target with an irresistible force of will, you compel them to submit. For the duration, your target may take no action other than submission to you unless they are directly endangered.
Duration: One scene or hour
Silver Claws
Required: A form with claws
Challenge: Gnosis vs. 6 Traits
Retest: Occult
Effect: Calling on Luna's power, you transform your claws to silver, which inflicts an extra level of Aggravated damage to any creature vulnerable to the moon's metal. In addition, the searing pain gives you one Rage each turn and inflicts a one-Trait penalty on all non-combat Challenges. If your Rage ever exceeds your Willpower, you must test for Frenzy.
Duration: One scene, or until you end the effect
Talons of Falcon
Required: Make a claw attack, screeching like a falcon.
Activation Time: At will in conjunction with a claw attack
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: You strike with a Falcon's deadly power. If your claw attack connects (use standard combat challenges), you deal two Aggravated damage in addition to whatever damage your claws deal. Talons of Falcon does not stack with any other Gift that enhances claw damage, such as Razor Claws or Silver Claws.
Duration: One attack
Wrath of Gaia
Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Social vs. Storyteller difficulty (based on the Wyrm-minions present)
Retest: Intimidation
Effect: You manifest a magnificent supernatural glory that terrifies all creatures of the Wyrm. All Wyrm-creatures within line of sight must succeed in a Willpower Challenge or immediately flee. Those that manage to remain must succeed in a second such Willpower Challenge in order to commence attacking you.
Duration: One Scene
Advanced Gifts
Full Moon's Wrath
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift. You must defeat nine Jagglings of Falcon in one night of battle under a full moon to learn it.
-
Waxing Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: One Rage and one Gnosis (yes, this is an exception)
Challenge: A number of tests equal to your current Gnosis; a win is a success, and a tie is only a success if you're an Ahroun
Retest: Leadership
Effect: For each success in the challenge, you summon one of the Jagglings of Falcon you defeated. They attack your foes on your behalf.
Duration: Each Jaggling departs when its target is defeated, when you die, or when the battle ends, whichever comes first.
Luna's Avenger
Activation Time: One full turn of concentration
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: You transmute your body into living silver, the metal of Luna, the better to destroy the enemies of her sister Gaia. You gain the Traits Tough x2 and an additional Healthy Health Level. All brawling damage you inflict against Garou (and other silver-vulnerable Fera) becomes Aggravated damage. You are immune to the effects of silver yourself. Whenever your attacks connect, make a followup win-or-tie Simple Test to inflict an additional level of Aggravated damage.
Duration: One Scene
New Moon Legerdemain
To Learn: You must be a member of the Moon Lodge to learn this gift, and also complete a great quest in Luna's name, sacrificing one permanent Gnosis.
-
Waning Cycle Gift: Moon Lodge members must master all Gifts in one Cycle (Waning or Waxing) before they can learn any of the other.
Cost: One Gnosis
Effect: You have a small crowd of Luna's trickster-spirits bound to you. They are usually dormant, but when you wake them with Gnosis, they come awake and begin making trouble in the area. All your enemies in the area are at a one-Trait penalty to all their challenges; any challenge directly against you is at a two-Trait penalty. If there are no enemies nearby, the spirits will amuse themselves with annoying but harmless tricks against your friends and allies. You can lull them back to sleep by singing a lullaby and spending a Gnosis.
Duration: A number of scenes equal to your permanent Gnosis
Paws of the Newborn Cub
Required: You snarl and glare at an opponent.
Cost: One Gnosis
Challenge: Gnosis vs. the target's Willpower
Retest: Intimidation

Duration: One turn
Secret of Gaia
Cost: One or more Gnosis
Effect: You attune yourself to a secret whispered to the first ancestor of all Garou, the great white wolf who sacrificed himself for Gaia's sake. That secret brings you close to the heart of Gaia, like so:

-
You can automatically see and communicate with all local spirits;
